Paradigm Lost? Electronic Publishing and the Renewal of Research [1998, rptd. 2008]

Abstract

We describe here the electronic periodical Applied Semiotics / Sémiotique appliquée (AS/SA), its conception, realisation and editorial goals, as well as the role it is destined to play in academic exchange. Electronic publishing is not without problems; some are simply technical, but most are attitudinal and dependent on the academic disciplines involved. Yet our experience with AS/SA suggests that academia would do well to take advantage of the Internet. Indeed, literate culture may have at its fingertips the means, or more precisely a medium, through which to effect an impressive rejuvenation.
