The author of TACT gives an overview of this text retrieval program, and discusses its capabilities, particularly those that seem to have had an influence on the ways it has been used in scholarly research. Among the features discussed are: the support for European languages; the support of complex text markup; the multiple means of viewing selected positions in the text, and how they tend to bring the user repeatedly back to focus on the text; the means provided in TACT to save the results of searches and reuse them in later activities.
